Hi Alix,

I thought your article “How to Raise an Optimist” was insightful. The concern you show for children’s success and equipping parents with necessary tools to enable this success is powerful. Your work is focused on providing new perspectives for parents who want their children to succeed.

I thought you might be interested in a recent study conducted by Dr. Stephanie Bair, a law professor at Brigham Young University with a PhD in neuroscience. Her research discovered that the brains of children who live in poverty are unable to make the same neurological pathways as other kids. As children grow up focused on survival, they lose the ability to imagine and think creatively. The damage is only permanent if there is not a significant change made during the time period that children’s brains are still malleable.

I am happy to send you the research study and connect you with Dr. Bair. I’ll follow up early next week to see if there is anything I can do to help.

Thanks for your consideration,
